Demuth Wins as Bowers Has Rough Night in Kansas City

Tyler Bright Takes Lites Class Victory

KANSAS CITY, Mo. January 30, 2010—After a one-year hiatus, the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series’ return to Kansas City and legendary Kemper Arena didn’t disappoint as Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLube Kawasaki’s Josh Demuth, of North Richland Hills, Texas, raced to his first win of the season. Foremost Insurance Yamaha’s Tyler Bright, of Lexington, N.C., raced to his second AMA Arenacross Lites class victory of the season.

As the gates dropped on AMA Arenacross main event, Demuth shot to the front of the field, grabbing the holeshot and going on to lead all 25 laps. Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda’s Nathan Skaggs, of Chillicothe, Ohio, found himself up front early, challenging Demuth along with fellow Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLube Kawasaki rider Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis. Unfortunately, Skaggs slowly dropped back into the field while Johnson held close to his teammate, keeping him honest.

Current points leader Tyler Bowers, of Danville, Ky., brought a five-race winning streak into the evening, but experienced problems in the first turn when his front brake line was severed. The third member of the Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLube team tried to maintain race pace, but was forced to pull off the track for maintenance. Upon returning, he found himself at the tail end of the field but soldiered on to salvage an eighth-place finish.

Demuth became just the third rider to win in 2010, but through five rounds this season the Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLube Kawasaki team is the only one to stand atop the podium. Johnson held on to the runner-up spot while reigning series champion Jeff Gibson, of Thornville, Ohio, captured his second podium of the season for Tuf Honda in third.

Bright has been strong in the early stages of the 2010 season. The Carolina native raced to the main event holeshot and went on to lead the entire race. GPF/Babbitt’s Kawasaki’s A.J. Catanzaro kept Bright honest, but couldn’t find a way into the lead, brining home second while Reynard Mods Kawasaki’s Cory Green, of Nowata, Okla., finished third.

By virtue of his finish, Bowers watched his points lead fall to a 15-point advantage over teammate Johnson, while Demuth moved into third to give Babbitt’s the top three spots in the premier class standings. Catanzaro’s impressive ride gives him the early edge in the AMA Arenacross Lites Western Regional Championship, with a two point lead after one round.

The AMA Arenacross Series continues next weekend from Tulsa, Okla. and the BOK Center next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CT.

Tickets for all rounds of the 2010 season can be purchased at ticketmaster.com and arenacross.com.

Tyler Bowers Sweeps Second Consecutive Weekend at AMA Arenacross from Hampton

Cory Green Wins First AMA Arenacross Lites Race of 2010

HAMPTON, Va. January 23, 2010—After three rounds of the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series, Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLube Kawasaki’s Tyler Bowers, of Danville, Ky., has made it clear that he is determined to win his first career AMA national title. On Saturday, Bowers grabbed his fifth straight AMA Arenacross class victory, sweeping the weekend’s Hampton Arenacross from the Hampton Coliseum. Reynard Mods Kawasaki’s Cory Green, of Nowata, Okla., won the AMA Arenacross Lites Eastern Regional Championship main event.

Tuf Honda’s Brock Sellards, of Sherodsville, Ohio, grabbed the holeshot in the premier AMA Arenacross class 25-lap main event for the second night in a row. Like the night before, the veteran rider held on to the top spot for the first few laps until Bowers made his move and went on to dominate the rest of the race. Last weekend, Bowers swept both nights of the Baltimore Arenacross and continues to extend his early-season points lead. Bowers’ win led the way to a Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLube Kawasaki sweep of the podium as Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis., and Josh Demuth, of North Richland Hills, Texas, finished second and third, respectively.

In a guest appearance in the AMA Arenacross Lites class on Saturday night, Green took advantage of his premier class experience to take the win in convincing fashion. The win was his first of the 2010 season. Fellow AMA Arenacross Series veteran Jim Neese, of Julian, N.C., grabbed the runner-up spot while GPF/Babbitt’s Kawasaki’s A.J. Catanzaro, of Middlefield, Conn., rounded out the podium in third.

Bowers leads the AMA Arenacross class standings by 24 points over teammate Johnson, the only other winner in 2010 while Virginia Beach native Devon Pilkington grabbed a tie for the AMA Arenacross Lites Eastern Regional points lead in front of his hometown crowd, sharing the top spot with Foremost Insurance Yamaha’s Tyler Bright, of Lexington, N.C.

The AMA Arenacross Series continues next weekend from Kansas City, Miss. and Kemper Arena next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CT.
Tickets for all rounds of the 2010 season can be purchased at ticketmaster.com and arenacross.com.

GEICO AMA EnduroCross Welcomes Sidi Boots as Series Sponsor

Premier Italian off-road/MX boot manufacturer began producing moto boots in 1969 and caps off their 40th-anniversary year by aligning themselves with GEICO EnduroCross

ANAHEIM, Calif., (Jan. 20, 2010)—Officials at GEICO AMA EnduroCross Series, presented by E3 Spark Plugs, welcomes Sidi boots to the list of great sponsors backing the 2010 series that opens this summer at Vegas’ Orleans Arena.

Evolving from a then highly-innovative approach to hiking boot construction, Sidi Sport entered the motocross field some 40 years ago – sold as the “Full Bore” brand in the States to all you old schoolers. Since 1969 Sidi has continually strived to create the most innovative, functional and best-fitting MX boots on the market, backing and testing its product with legendary names like Joel Robert while putting the Sidi brand name on the map.

Since then off-road greats such former GEICO EnduroCross champ Ricky Dietrich, along with international off-road stars such as Stefan Everts, Juha Salminen, Kurt Caselli and Destry Abbott all run the recognizable Italian boots in the harshest conditions possible for man and machine. Sidi’s are at home on the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) battlefields, torturous Baja, the GNCCs WORC series’ and, of course, holding up through the mind-bending obstacles that make up GEICO EnduroCross.

“With the jagged rock crossings, massive boulder mountain, loose logs, felled trees, water hazards, mud, sand and all things slippery, grippy, wet and muddy, EnduroCross should prove to be the optimal test grounds for the Sidi off-road boot line,” said Sidi’s Bill Berroth. “EnduroCross is like a laboratory for off-road equipment with a house packed full of the most discerning enthusiasts. Sidi welcomes the challenge and looks forward to again proving the worthiness of our boots through our partnership with EnduroCross.”

Added Lance Bryson, Director of Sales & Marketing for GEICO EnduroCross: “Sidi has been around forever and with good reason – they make some of the best boots in the world with attention to quality and workmanship unsurpassed in our industry. We’re pumped to have Sidi on board this year with GEICO EnduroCross and look forward to working as a team to help further the great reputation of their boots through EnduroCross’ live events and widespread industry interest.”

Dungey Takes First Career Monster Energy Supercross Win and Points Lead at Wild Night in Phoenix

Weimer Works Through Tough Competition to Win
Supercross Lites

PHOENIX, Ariz. (January 16, 2010)—After an epic premier one week ago, round two of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season didn’t disappoint as Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn., won his first career AMA Supercross class victory en route to taking the points lead. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer, of Rupert, Idaho, captured his second straight AMA Supercross Lites Western Regional victory.

The night began dramatically when points leader James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., was involved in a frightening crash during his heat race. The San Manuel Yamaha rider overcame obvious pain to compete in the last chance qualifier where he took the win and qualified for the main event. As the gates dropped, Dungey raced to his second straight SPIKE Holeshot Award, with Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash., and teammate Austin Stroupe, of Lincolnton, N.C., following, and never looked back leading all 20 laps of the main event.

“I’m just pumped on the nice performance (tonight),” said Dungey. “This is a big step in my career. I owe a lot of thanks to all the people supporting me. I’m glad to get this out of the way and I’ll never forget it. It’s early in the season and last week was tough. James was on it and I hope he’s ok. It’s just great to come out with a win here in round two.”

Stewart found himself buried in the back of the field alongside rival Chad Reed, of Tampa, Fla., and the duo followed one another throughout the early part of the race until Reed attempted to pass the reigning champion on lap five, causing a collision and subsequent fall for both riders. Reed failed to finish for the second week in a row while Stewart soldiered home in 15th. Villopoto rode to a solid runner-up finish while San Manuel Yamaha’s Josh Hill, of Yoncalla, Ore., landed in third.

As the AMA Supercross Lites class blasted out of the gates, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Josh Hansen, of Elbert, Colo., grabbed the SPIKE Holeshot Award with GEICO Powersports Honda teammates Blake Wharton, of Pilot Point, Texas, and Trey Canard, of Shawnee, Okla., following in second and third, respectively. As the field entered the section before the first triple, Hansen lost control of his bike and suffered a hard crash. Wharton assumed the lead and would hold it until lap 12 when Rockstar Energy Suzuki/Canidae’s Ryan Morais, of Murrieta, Calif., made the pass with Weimer close behind. The next lap, Weimer made the pass for the win.

“I struggled a bit for some reason,” said Weimer. “I got my first win (in Phoenix) and I love it here, but I always struggle in the sand (section) every year. I made some mistakes in the beginning and never thought I’d be up here. This is kind of a surprise but it’s great.”

Morais finished just behind in second while Wharton held on for third.
Dungey currently holds a nine-point advantage over Villopoto in the AMA Supercross standings while Weimer leads Morais by eight points in the AMA Supercross Lites Western Regional standings.

Outlaw Series at Breezewood Proving Grounds

I have an exciting year planned for the park in 2010.  Our 2009 Dream Camp was so successful that I have three Dream Camps on the schedule for this year.  All three camps are four full days of riding and training and three nights in our comfortable air-conditioned cabins. We provide all meals, lodging and maintenance items such as oils, lubes and cleaners. For a copy of the daily schedule of events and a registration form email me at breezewoodprovinggrounds@yahoo.com.

New for 2010 is our four race OUTLAW SERIES !   These races will be held at the end of the day so riders can get a full day of riding in before the racing begins.   All four of our outlaw races will be held on Saturdays at 5 pm, and again the tracks will remain open on those four race days.

In addition to our outlaw series, we are hosting 2 AMA DISTRICT 5 races at the park, as part of their spring and championship series.  This is very exciting news for the Proving Grounds, and I hope everyone will come out and participate!!  Keep in mind the PARK will be CLOSED to open riding on the two AMA RACE DATES.

For our newer riders and those that are looking to get into motocross riding, we are offering a BEGINNER RIDER TRAINING DAY at the park on Friday April 2nd.  This class will go over basic riding techniques including; body position, starting, clutch use, turning, hills, obstacles and of course jumps. We will have both Motorcycle and ATV trainers on hand for this class.

Don't forget about the awesome swimming pond that was opened late last summer. With the 80' waterslide, sun bathing sand beach, diving pier and cool refreshing water to cool off during the hot summer months !  Take a look at the attachments and make sure you plan your summer vacation with the entire family at the Breezewood Proving Grounds!

Please note the Breezewood Pricing Page that is attached.  Although I was able to keep the weekend daily ride price and the weekend 2 day price the same as it has been for the past 3 years. I was forced to raise the WEEK DAY price to the same as we charge on weekends. I also had to raise the 3 day ride price from $70 to $80 ($26 per day). ALSO NOTE THAT MEMBERSHIPS ARE ONLY ON SALE FOR 2 MORE WEEKS !

Finally, a reminder to book that cabin rental for your group.  We only have a few rentals here, and they book up FAST !  Especially Holiday weekends.   So if you plan on renting a cabin at the track this summer - Now is the time to make the reservation to ensure your weekend is available.

I'm totally psyched up about the upcoming riding season and look forward to working with all the great riders we have here.  If you have any questions, comments or suggestions - as always don't hesitate to email me at breezewoodprovinggrounds@yahoo.com.

Former AMA supercross star and racing veteran Ezra Lusk is prepared to come out of retirement and make a full-time return to the sport he loves on a more intimate and in-your-face style of racing when he joins the AMA Arenacross Series.

Achieving success in the big stadiums of AMA Supercross throughout the ‘90s, Lusk is returning to competition in the action-packed, technical confines of the AMA Arenacross Series for 2010. As a member of the dominant Tuf Honda team that has won the last three AMA Arenacross class titles, Lusk will join teammates Brock Sellards and reigning AMA Arenacross Series champion Jeff Gibson for his official series debut at the legendary Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo., January 30-31 for the fourth of 12 rounds this season.

An injury suffered while preparing for the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series forced Lusk to sit on the sidelines as the series got underway, but now the Georgia native affectionately known as Yogi is back and ready to make his first foray into the bar-banging, high-energy competition of the world’s most exciting and intimate form of motorcycle racing.

After a stellar 2010 debut at their team’s hometown race, respective Friday and Saturday night race winners Chad Johnson and Tyler Bowers lead their competitors, sitting atop the standings for Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLube Kawasaki.

Behind them, a potent lineup of challengers await their opportunity to climb atop the podium, including the series’ latest all-star team from reigning three-time series champion Tuf Racing. The 2010 Tuf Honda effort is led by defending series champion Jeff Gibson, who posted a runner-up finish on the opening night of action but suffered his worst performance since racing the AMA Arenacross Series full time last season on Saturday, failing to make the main event. Joining Gibson is perennial championship bridesmaid Brock Sellards along with former supercross star Ezra Lusk who returns from retirement to make his AMA Arenacross Series debut.

Gibson and Sellards were the top two finishers in the AMA Arenacross Series last season and Sellards brings a familiarity with Tuf Honda, racing for the team in 2007. With success and experience in the hands of the riders wearing the number one and two plates, Lusk’s adjustment to the series should be smooth when he joins the 2010 season at the third round in Hampton, Va. Lusk is recovering from a testing injury, forcing him to miss the first two rounds of the year.

Last year in Baltimore, Gibson established himself as a title favorite, extending his early season points lead with a Friday night win while Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda’s Nathan Skaggs continued what would be a breakout season in 2009 by capturing the victory on Saturday.

In the always unpredictable AMA Arenacross Lites class, a pair of premier AMA Arenacross class competitors took advantage of making the adjustment to a new season as Josh Demuth and Gray Davenport took the wins on Friday and Saturday night, respectively.

This weekend marks the second round of the Lites Eastern Regional championship, currently led by Grand Rapids’ Friday night winner and defending Central Regional champion Kurt McCabe.

Stewart Lights up Anaheim with Exciting Monster Energy Supercross Win

Weimer Leads Wire-to-Wire for Lites Class Victory

ANAHEIM, Calif. January 9, 2009—At the opening race of the 2010 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, defending AMA Supercross class champion, James Stewart, of Dade City, Fla., pulled off an exciting, come from behind win to open the season in front of 43,841 fans at Angel Stadium. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer, of Rupert, Idaho, opened the Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites championship with a big win and is the class’ points leader.

Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn., won the $1,500 SPIKE Holeshot.

Award in his official AMA Supercross class debut with Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash., and Stewart following in second and third, respectively. Stewartmade quick work of Villopoto and moved into second place. Former two-time AMA Supercross class champion Chad Reed, of Tampa, Fla., started in sixth place.

At the end of the first lap, Reed, who finished second in the championship last year, pulled off the racetrack after colliding with Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki’s Austin Stroupe, of Lincolnton, N.C., and broke several spokes in his wheel.

“I was at the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Reed. “The pace is really high right now, and there was nothing that I could do. I was trying to pass another rider and our lines came together.”

Stewart, aboard a San Manuel Yamaha, trailed Dungey by over four seconds until lap 17 when he made a pass for the lead and eventual win. Dungey tried to answer back on the final lap of the race but Stewart held him off for his seventh win at Angel Stadium and the 37th of his career. Dungey finished second and Kevin Windham, of Centerville, Miss., finished third.

“I stayed consistent throughout the race,” said Stewart. “I started to push myself during the last 10 laps and that is what racing is all about. I wanted to be there at the end and I was.”

Dungey, who is the defending Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites class champion and raced a handful of premier class races back in 2008, is competing in his first full AMA Supercross class season.

“It was amazing,” said Dungey. “I had a few bobbles, and I am here learning. There is always another race. No excuses, James rode a great race, and this was a fun debut for me.”

Weimer won the $1,000 SPIKE Holeshot Award, leading his teammate Josh Hansen, of Elbert, Colo., through turn one in the Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites class main event. At the end of lap one, Hansen slid out after the finish line and dropped to seventh place. Hansen’s mistake allowed Rockstar Energy/Suzuki/Canidae’s Ryan Morais, of Murrieta, Calif., to move into second place.

After charging through the pack, GEICO Powersports Honda’s Trey Canard, of Shawnee, Okla., passed Morais to secure second place. The win for Weimer marked the fifth of his AMA Supercross Lites class career. Canard finished second and Morais finished third.

“It feels good to have the first one done now,” said Weimer. “I rode smooth, and I did not make any mistakes. For right now, it is weekend to weekend, and the goal is to win races.”

Monster Energy Supercross heads to Phoenix’s Chase Field next weekend for the second stop on the championship circuit.

Nuclear CowboyzSM Invade Pittsburgh for World Tour Debut

The Planet’s Top Freestyle Motocross Riders Hammer Fans with Record-Setting Acrobatics

PITTSBURGH, Pa. January 2, 2010—Before a packed house at Pittsburgh’s Mellon Arena tonight, the inaugural Nuclear CowboyzSM tour launched its first of 15 U.S. tour stops. Nuclear Cowboyz, Feld Motor Sports’SM newest property, is a collection of the world’s greatest FMX riders performing to a scripted storyline where two tribes, Soldiers of Havoc led by freestyle great Nate Adams and the Metal Mulisha led by Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, battle for supremacy in the post apocalyptic setting.

Pittsburgh native and hometown favorite Adam Jones rattled the audience, stomping dozens of inverts, cliff hangers and kiss of deaths as he and the Soldiers of Havoc, comprised of Nate Adams, Mike Mason, Jimmy McGuire, Matt Buyten and more, battled conflicting forces to preserve post apocalyptic supremacy.

“It felt awesome doing the show in front of the hometown crowd,” said Jones. “The show was really a lot of fun and we hope the crowd dug it. We didn’t see it as we were pretty focused, but everything felt really good out there and we just rode it. A lot of work went into Nuclear Cowboyz, we are pumped to be part of it.”

Opposing unit Metal Mulisha, equipped with FMX greats Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, Ronnie Faisst, Todd Potter, Jimmy Fitzpatrick and others, took freestyle motocross to elevated limits as they battled against Soldiers of Havoc, performing tactical whips, hart-attacks, synchronized no-handed flips/landings and much more, leaving fans on their feet soliciting for an encore.

As the two tribes battled one another with mind-blowing aerobatics, Geoff Aaron, a 10-time U.S. National Trials champion, revamped gravity aboard his motorcycle while jumping on cars, climbing ramps from ground level and executing many wheelies and stoppies. Quad-freestyle icon Derek Guetter pulled off the awe-inspiring back flip atop a 400lb ATV.

“Tonight’s show was the culmination of months of preparation and hard work to assemble the Nuclear Cowboyz tour,” said Todd Jendro, senior director of operations, Feld Motor Sports. “We have the world’s greatest freestyle motocross riders, pyrotechnics, dancers and more show enhancements that make Nuclear Cowboyz a must see in 2010.”
