In a small workshop near Stafford, Virginia, you can find one of the region's best-kept secrets for building a competitive motocross bike- Heavy Duty Racing.
Pete Payne, is a long-time East Coast racer and one of the region's premier suspension and engine technicians. Through his partnership with MX Tech, Pete continues to build on his suspension tuning knowledge. He can also perform any engine work that you need.
I have riding on Pete's suspension for five years now, and the difference between stock and the HDR set-up is unreal. I immediately noticed a much plusher feel out of the front forks on both my two-stroke RM250, and the heavier RMZ450. Pete has done all kinds of work for Moto East, including cylinder boring , cylinder porting, and other engine work.
What I like about Pete's suspension work is how supple it feels in the initial part of the stroke while still offering the resistance I need when bottoming off a big jump or casing it (which I try not to do).
Relying on years of experience, Pete knows how to set up forks for a very progressive feel while tuning things in a way that takes the sting out of the big hits and keep your bike tracking straight in the rough stuff.
Heavy Duty Racing is also equipped with an engine dyno that helps Pete fine-tune your bike's performance and get the most power possible.
One thing I really like about dealing with Pete is he is close by. Instead of boxing up my suspension and sending it off to one of the big suspension houses across the country, I can get service that is not only less expensive, but offers a personal level of attention that is impossible at some of the big "name" outfits. Obviously these large companies also know that they are doing, but dealing with Pete gives you access to world-class level performance from a local guy.
